We shear our alpacas every spring and Lesa processes the fleeces throughout the year in our studio by first 'skirting' to remove debris, washing (some fiber is dyed at this stage of processing), putting fleece through picker to open/fluff the fibers before fleece is carded to align the fibers.

Each scarf is unique and beautifully handcrafted in our studio using the alpaca fiber grown by our herd.  I love working with the alpaca fiber designing and creating each of these scarves!

These scarves are created by laying out the design of alpaca fiber and felting the fibers to the silk with warm water, soap and hours of rubbing/agisting.  Next, the scarf is dropped over and over  

in a sink with hot water and more soap to further felt the fibers to the silk.  This process shrinks the fibers and pulls the silk to create unique crinkles.  The scarf is then rinsed several times and laid flat to dry.  Finishing steps include trimming fiber and sometimes needle felting edges to complete finished look.
